E-juice

E-juice, also known as e-liquid or vape juice, is used in vaporizers and electronic cigarettes. It consists of basic food-grade ingredients and other ingredients such as nicotine and flavorings that make up about 8% to 10% of the total composition of e-juice.
How does vape juice work?
Basically, an atomizer heats the liquid to the point that becomes vapor that you can inhale. This is why smoking e-cigarettes is called vaping. It produces a cloud of vapor, and it has the subtle smell and taste of whatever flavor cartridge you buy, like tobacco, menthol, strawberry…
What is in an e-liquid?
Vape juice is made from water, flavoring, propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine base (VG) or/and nicotine. It is used in vaporizers and electronic cigarettes.
Propylene glycol
Propylene glycol, PG in the vaping community, is an organic substance that has been used for over a century. PG is found in everyday products from toothpaste to shampoo to medicines. It has been deemed to be safe for human consumption. The vaporized form of propylene glycol looks like smoke.

PG carries the flavor very well, but absorbs water. That means it has a dehydrating effect. As a result, some PG e-liquids can be harsh. This is why most e-liquids are largely balanced by vegetable glycerin, or VG.
Vegetable glycerine
Vegetable glycerin, also called VG, has been deemed safe for human consumption. There are different ways to get vegetable glycerin, but the main source used by vape companies is extracted from the palm plant. VG is a preservative and is used in many different types of foods. You’ll also find it in most creams and cosmetics.

What makes VG such a good liquid for vape juice? It gives a lot of vapor, nice mild cloud of vapor compared to PG. However, it doesn’t have as good flavor as PG, so both substances are necessary for a balanced e-liquid.
nicotine
The nicotine used in e-cig liquid is pharmaceutical grade and extracted from tobacco plants. Nicotine is considered an addictive substance. E-liquid with nicotine is only made for adult tobacco consumers.

More recently, a new type of nicotine has emerged. Nicotine salt e-liquid is not extracted from tobacco leaves, but is extracted from the salts in the stems. The advantage of using a nicotine salt e-liquid is that you can vaporize a much higher nicotine content without experiencing harshness. Nicotine salt is smoother than regular pharmaceutical grade nicotine. The real benefit is that you can get a lot of punch and some vapor. That’s why nicotine salts are often the preferred liquid for smokers.
