E-juice with nicotine, also known as e-liquid with nicotine or vape juice with nicotine, is what vapers use to get away from the desire for a regular cigarette with tobacco. Here you get the nicotine, but you skip the tobacco, and by doing so you don’t put yourself at risk of the many dangerous chemicals you normally inhale with regular cigarettes.
What nicotine strength should you start vaping with?
The vaping world can be a little overwhelming, with new terminology and countless little decisions to make along the way.
One of the most prominent choices you have to make when vaping is related to the nicotine level/nicotine strength of the e-juice.
Nicotine level is expressed as an amount of nicotine in milligrams (mg) per milliliter (ml). For example: in a 10 ml bottle of e-juice, with 12 mg/ml nicotine, it means that for every milliliter in the bottle there is 12 mg of nicotine, so the bottle contains 10 ml x 12 mg/ml = 120 mg of nicotine. That’s why it’s important to keep e-liquid with nicotine away from children and pets.
But with all the nicotine levels to choose from – 0 mg, 3 mg, 6 mg, 12 mg, 18 mg – which nicotine level should you go for?
Generally, smokers start with 18 mg/mL vape juice, but the decision is not that simple. It is very important for you to know that there is a trade-off between getting a lot of nicotine and having an enjoyable vaping experience.
So let’s discover each common nicotine level:
18 mg/ml: This provides a nice dose of nicotine. If you’re about a 20 cigarette smoker every day, this is the ideal level to start vaping with.
12 mg/ml: If you’ve been smoking for a while or were a light smoker, this is the nicotine level for you.
6 mg/ml: This is really meant for those who want to take a step to gradually reduce nicotine.
3 mg/ml: It’s a stop on the road to becoming nicotine-free.
Finally, don’t shy away from more nicotine if you think it will help you reduce the danger associated with going back to regular cigarettes. The goal is to get a satisfying hit of nicotine e-juice so you can stay away from normal analog cigarettes.
Above is the general rule and it applies more to smaller vape devices/e-cigarettes. You need to consider if you have a powerful device like sub-ohm devices. Then you need to go down in nicotine strength since they produce much larger vape clouds and use much more e-juice than the smaller vape devices do. The larger devices (sub-ohm) will also mean that you get a denser vapor that you inhale, which also means more nicotine. It’s recommended to start between 3 and 6 mg/ml nicotine strength when using a sub-ohm vaping device. As an example, our XEO VOID is a sub-ohm device with a choice of 0.6 ohm coil. It has an output of approximately 30 watts. We recommend using 6 mg/mL nicotine strength here if you want a pretty strong nicotine kick. To use any higher nicotine strength than that, you need to have a very high tolerance for nicotine, which means you need to have been a heavy smoker to be able to tolerate a nicotine strength of 12 mg/ml in the same device. It is not recommended to use this device with 18 mg/ml nicotine level since you can overdose on nicotine if you are not very VERY used to high doses of nicotine.
